I don't have much poetry right now but I'm working on it!!

the following poem was written for my english class!

September 16, 2023

A glowing yellow-hued streetlight that attracts tiny gnats
An empty road, not a single biker or driver
A single lit room in a building of dark windows
Wet asphalt covered sparsely with yellow leaves
The sky a mixture of blue and orange trying to draw eyes away from the glowing crescent
My eyes focus on the large tree with drooping wet leaves
A sweetgum tree, catch a star-shaped leaf for good luck
Turn its resin into gum, chew it like a piece of confectionary
Solace I find sat on scratchy grass and mulch
Journal pages splattered with words of black ink and regret
Haunted by ghosts chasing me from my hometown, throwing fishing lines and bait in a shallow attempt to reel me back in
Words unspoken and left on pages in pretty cursive
Written down, I let go of memories that once were
Their existence remaining dependent on the fog of darkness clouding me
But I see more than clouds
There is a fire truck driving down, flashing red lights on and off every half second
A dark bird to only its figure flying in the sky
Wind blowing the sweetgum leaves and causing goosebumps on my skin
The smell of wet grass from the rain before it like tears from the sky
Goodbye ghosts, for I am free of your grips and released into the world of the present
